A Toronto Hydro worker suffered serious injuries after a shock in an electrical vault Wednesday afternoon, officials say.

Emergency crews were called to Willard Avenue and Bloor Street West, east of Jane Street, at around 12:30 p.m.

Toronto Fire Services said firefighters took the man from the vault and he was transported to hospital by paramedics. Police said the man didn’t have vital signs.

“The well-being of this employee is our top priority and ask that everyone keep him in their thoughts,” Russell Baker, a spokesperson for Toronto Hydro, told Global News in a statement.

“We are grateful to the Toronto Hydro employees and medical professionals for their quick response and care.”

He said Toronto Hydro and Ontario’s Ministry of Labour are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

The hydro company reported a power outage along the Bloor Street West corridor roughly between Humber River and west of Dufferin Street.
